National Nanny Recognition Week

September 21-27th 2025

Celebrating Nannies: The Heart Behind National Nanny Recognition Week: Guest blog by Kellie Geres

Since 1998, National Nanny Recognition Week (NNRW™) has been a beloved tradition in the in-home childcare community — a week dedicated to honouring the dedication, professionalism, and love that nannies bring into families’ lives every single day.

How It All Began

NNRW™ was founded by a passionate group of industry leaders including the late Judi Merlin and Mary Clurman, and dedicated nannies who wanted to shift the narrative around in-home childcare. Rather than focusing on the occasional negative headlines, they believed in shining a light on the positive, meaningful impact nannies make in the lives of children and families.

What started as a small grassroots effort has grown into a global celebration. Today, NNRW™ is recognized not only across the United States but internationally, with events and activities taking place in Europe, Australia, and beyond — often referred to as InterNational Nanny Recognition Week (INNRW™).

The Leaders Behind the Legacy

NNRW™ is currently led by two powerhouse veteran nannies, Angela Jackson and Kellie Geres, who bring over 65 years of combined experience to their leadership. Together, they manage the website, coordinate outreach, and keep the spirit of NNRW™ alive on social media— all as a labour of love for the community they’ve been part of for decades.

But what truly keeps NNRW™ thriving? Its nannies, agencies, parents, and supporters like you. Every brunch hosted, social post shared, card written, or celebration held helps elevate this week from a moment to a movement.

Why It Matters

For 27 years, NNRW™ has been a moment to pause and reflect on the vital role nannies play in nurturing children, supporting families, and building stronger communities. This week isn’t about perks or pay checks — it’s about recognizing nannies for the love, dedication, and professionalism they bring to their work every day.

It’s a reminder that small acts of appreciation can have a huge impact.

How You Can Participate?

Whether you’re a nanny, agency, parent, or business — you have a role to play in NNRW™.

** For Nannies:

Host an event in your city or connect with local nannies to celebrate. Whether it’s a picnic, coffee date, or online gathering — every effort counts!

** For Agencies:

Organize a recognition event, send personalized notes or gifts to your nannies, or simply spread the word to families about the importance of this week.

** For Parents:

A heartfelt thank you, a handmade card from the kids, or a bouquet of flowers can mean the world to your nanny. Let them know just how much they matter.

**For Businesses:

Get involved by sponsoring a local event, promoting NNRW™ in your newsletters, or offering a special discount or gift for nannies during the week.

Whether you’re celebrating with a party, a card, or a simple post of gratitude — know that every bit of recognition matters. Join us in making this year’s National Nanny Recognition Week the biggest and most heartfelt one yet.

** Mark your calendars and stay connected with us at nnrw.org and on social media.

Let’s continue to uplift the caregivers who give so much of themselves — not just this week, but every week.
